A narrow village street runs between tall houses in ochre, terracotta and cream, their blue shutters propped open at every angle. A line of washing crosses from one side to the other at the second floor, and the street itself lies in deep blue shadow while the upper walls take the sun. Everybody’s sheets are everybody’s business here.
