A pale road climbs in two long bends toward a village of ochre and cream houses, a small bell tower standing above the tiled roofs. Three cypresses mark the last curve, the banks are dry grass and rust-colored scrub, and mist is lifting off the dark hill behind. Lunch is somewhere up there.
