Still Analog

The weight of a book in both hands. A mug going cold on the sill while you watch the weather. Some pleasures never needed upgrading, and this collection is on their side.

The train goes past, the crowd goes by, the weather does what it does on the other side of the glass, and in the middle of it somebody turns a page. Thirty-six watercolor-inspired illustrations keep that stillness at the center of the frame: a book with its spine cracked open, a mug held against a cold window, a typewriter, a film camera, an old vinyl record player.

None of it is nostalgia. The light is natural and the shadows are deep, and wherever there is motion, blurred figures, a passing carriage, rain, it stays at the margins. The world moves at its own speed out at the edges of the picture. The subject just isn't moving with it.

In The Annual, Volume One, pages 30 to 37.

Many of the illustrations in this collection are available as prints. If the one you love isn't there yet, write to me.
