Four russet-brown medlars sit in a loose group, three of them turned to show the open, star-shaped crown at the end of the fruit. Their skins shade from orange to dull brown, and each throws a long violet shadow down to the left. An old fruit that most people have never eaten, waiting until it is soft enough to be worth it.
