A whole pomegranate sits alone on white, its skin a deep mottled red with wet highlights near the top. The dry crown at the stem end flares open like a small star, a tan russet patch marks the left side, and a violet shadow spreads to the right. Opening it is a twenty-minute job and a ruined shirt, and still worth it.
