Three hellebore stems lie crossed on a torn sheet of kraft paper, two in green-white with plum edging and the third fully deep purple, their thick stems streaked red where they were cut. Old tea-colored stains sit in the paper and the shadows fall soft to the right. It flowers in the worst month of the year and then behaves badly once it’s cut.
