A thin ribbon of garnet juice falls from the wooden spout of the press into a broad tub already holding its first inches, the surface ringing where the stream lands. Stray grapes sit forgotten on the press bed and the staves below the spout are dyed purple to the grain. The year’s first pour, and nobody’s glass in sight.
