By Rail

You settle in and the platform slides away. Somewhere ahead is where you’re going, but for now there is only the window, the warm light, and the whole country going by at the speed of an afternoon.

The light comes up over the fields before anyone wakes, and that first cup of coffee steams on a metal tray while the countryside brushes past the window. By mid-morning the carriage has found its rhythm, the tick of the rails beneath, a coat folded onto the rack, a book open and unread on a lap. Someone sleeps with a cheek against the window. A child kneels backward on the seat to watch the world unspool. The afternoon turns the wheat to gold, and then the towns to silhouettes, and then the windows to dark mirrors reflecting the lamps inside. This is the part of the journey nobody photographs and everyone remembers. Not the arriving. The going.

Seventy-five watercolor-inspired illustrations follow a single day on the rails. It opens under the vaulted glass of a great station, in the shuffle of the platform and the last bags carried aboard, and then the doors close and the country opens up. The morning is all window, the land changing frame by frame, vineyards giving way to a hill town and then to the sudden blue of the coast. Somewhere in the middle hours it’s the small things that hold the attention, a ticket bought, a coat folded onto the rack, the afternoon light beginning to lengthen. By evening the crowd is streaming toward the platform’s end, and the last light turns the carriage gold. Then it’s gone, and the car runs on through the dark as its own small world, the towns passing as points of light beyond the black windows. The palette moves with the day, warm gold through the mornings, cool slate across the middle hours, deep blue and black at the close, the only warmth coming from within.

For travel and lifestyle editorial, hospitality and hotel brands, stationery, food and beverage, publishers, and any creator whose work touches the romance of the journey. Where the other collections are places the eye settles into, By Rail is the passage between them, the same seeing turned to motion, the thread that carries you from one to the next. It runs the full arc of a day by design, so a single image can be pulled for the exact hour it needs to hold, first light to midnight. Take one frame for a cover or a wall, or let the whole set carry a brand the length of a journey.
