Four ewes stand with their backs to the viewer, pressed up against a grey timber gate between drystone piers, while two men lean on the top bar from the other side and look them over. Fleeces have gone yellow at the flanks and one ewe has turned her head to check on the rest. Whatever is being decided at that gate, the ewes have not been consulted.
